Kaiba had been growing more and more worried. Every day, Mokuba complained about his side hurting. A fever erupted, burning his forehead to the touch, and he refused to eat. Sluggish and not willing to move... None of these things were like his little brother at all, and being the caretaker and over protective big brother that he was...
Finally, the man had enough. Leaving early from his school, not even attending the important meeting at Kaiba Corp following, he went immediately to check on his little brother.. It was then that he realized just how dire the situation was becoming. Mokuba never missed school for one; Seto refused to hear of it, forcing him to go to school even when he was ill - and usually, Mokuba followed through.
The fact he hadn't even changed position, the fact that all that had changed was the vomit that lined the bottom of the trash can made it definite that his little brother was more than ill.
Not even waiting for him to protest, Seto picked him up as gingerly as possible, ordering for his private helicopter to come and pick them up, and take them to the private hospital, ran with all of the most brilliant minds in medicine. After all, he was Seto Kaiba; there was nothing he couldn't buy.
---
"Mr. Kaiba, sir, unfortunately it seems that Mokuba is going to need to undergo an immediate surgery."
The dreaded words sent spirals of concern into Kaiba's stomach, although he wasn't going to show it. His face remained as impassive as ever as he continued to pry the doctor for the necessary information.
"Excuse me, Doctor, but you haven't told me exactly what it is I need to hear," he stated, his tone still as demanding as ever. "Tell me what is going on or you can kiss your position in this hospital goodbye."
Although the doctor could get a job anywhere, he knew that Kaiba Corp offered much better pay and much better benefits than anywhere else in Japan; or for that matter, anywhere else in the world. It would be foolish to go against the order now, and that sent the doctor scurrying.
"W-Well, you see, Sir, your brother has appendicitis. If untreated, it will rupture worse than it has and it will..." He swallowed, knowing that Kaiba would get upset at this, "... result in death."
Blue orbs narrow significantly as he glares at the doctor, fist clenching at his side. He had worked far too hard to protect Mokuba, fought far too much to ensure that everything was done properly for him to live happily. There was no chance that he was going to allow him to die.
"Do whatever you can to heal him as soon as possible. Am I understood?"
"Yes, Mr. Kaiba, sir!"
---
The following day was the day of the operation, and Kaiba did nothing the entire time except for pace. His work that he brought in lay forgotten in the briefcase at his side, homework also not taking a place in the genius' mind. If nothing else, the only thing concerning him was his little brother and how everything was faring.
He was told that it would be a few hours before he could see him - the hours of the operation and a couple of hours afterwards for the remainder of the anestheic to finally wear off and for the sutures to close at least a little.
Tsk. Bastards, keeping him away from the one person that meant the world to him. Abruptly, the teenager stands, coat whirling behind him as he heads towards the doors of the hospital...
A familiar jacket captures his eyes soon afterwards. Those were uniforms from Domino High. That meant that a student was here; whoever that student could be, however, was none of his concern. Then again, anything was better than waiting alone for word about his little brother, correct?
Sighing a little, the teenager headed over to the receptionist desk, blue eyes glaring even more so with the stress he was feeling. "Those students; who were they here to see?"
"There is a woman from your school here, Mr. Kaiba. Mazaki Anzu."
Oh, great. Perfect. One of the Nerd Herd was in his hospital of all places. She better be able to afford the bill for the care and time she took. Briefcase remaining at his side, he checked his watch.
Still three hours to go until he could check in on Mokuba. Three, long hours.
"Which room?"
"372, Mr. Kaiba."
Zero acknowledgment later, and he is already disappearing down the corridors towards the elevators, awaiting the doors to open to allow him inside.
---
Heading directly to the room she was in, he paused, listening at the door to make certain that any of the other idiots weren't around. Yugi with his bright attitude, Jounouchi with his idiotic actions, Honda acting as the perfect sidekick. In the end, all four of them together were irritating - almost as much as them individually were.
At least him being able to pick fun at Anzu would help to make the day pass by quicker.
Lifting a hand, he knocks on the door, crossing it across his torso as he holds on to his opposite arm soon afterwards.

Kara Hayes
Kara Hayes When she heard the knock, Anzu sighed quietly. She had already sent one group of friends away, told them to go back to school and leave her to rest. Not that she wanted to sleep; no, she just didn't want anyone there with her.
It clearly wasn't a doctor or nurse - they knocked, then entered after a few moments. Twice already she had snapped at them to wait for her to /tell/ them it was alright to come in. Even if this was their hospital, they should still show manners and respect their patients' privacy.
She pulled herself up higher in the bed, stuffing a second pillow at her back to support her. Her leg, which had been expertly bandaged and repaired, was suspended carefully. The nurses had told her the name of this contraption, but considering the state she was in when she arrived, it was no wonder that she remembered little of the conversation. It made for an uncomfortable position, and she hadn't slept the night before because of it.
"Come in." She said it loud enough to ensure the person on the other side would hear, but her voice lacked its usual happy tone. What had she to be happy about, after all?

Ōku Nomoji Kaiba paused for the briefest of moments. The receptionist had stated that the idiot girl, Anzu, had taken up residence in this room; that clearly was not the case. It was Anzu's voice, it was her name on the door, but it definitely wasn't the dancer on the inside. After all, she would have been far too bright, far too happy, should she had done so.
Frowning, deciding he had already been given clearance to come inside and cause trouble, he reached out, touching the doorhandle and twisting it, allowing himself into the room. He might be a gigantic prick, but even he had manners. As the head of a multimillion yen corporation, it was only proper to await certain protocols, after all.
"I thought I smelled an obscene scent around here," he stated as he entered, placing his briefcase on the side table before sitting himself down in a chair properly, making certain not to cause any damage to his overcoat.
Blue eyes search brown, his observant eyes taking in everything there was to see. The bandaged leg. The suspensions. Bags under eyes were also evident. "Seems you've been here for a while, Mazaki."

Kara Hayes Oh great. Just the person she wanted to see - not. Seeing the snobby multimillionaire entering her room, she internally wished it had been ten doctors, with twenty needles to poke her with.
And then he makes himself at home. Anzu wonders if she somehow died during her accident, and was transported to a far off alternate world where Kaiba -wasn't- the biggest jerk in the world.
"Three days, not that it's any of your business." She answers dryly, not flinching from his piercing gaze. "Why are you here?" He may be a jerk, but he isn't the kind of person who would invest time out of his day to visit someone in hospital, just to make fun of them.

Ōku Nomoji "Three days that you have been in this family ran hospital. Do you even know who controls most of the people that are in here?" Kaiba asked, his words seeming to be more haughty than anything, though even she would be able to notice the missing snob-like attitude that normally came through. His words weren't as scathing as usual, nowhere near as cruel as he could make them.
"What makes you think that I have to explain to you why I am at this hospital? I am making certain they are using the technology I created for them properly." The snort escapes from him immediately, his blue gaze moving to the side to avoid Anzu's brown ones.
She was definitely not the usual Nerd Herd girl she was when around Yugi and the others. Maybe it was due to her leg being injured; after all, her entire life revolved aroun dancing. Not like Kaiba would ever mention that he knew something like that. That would require him saying that he paid attention to her.

Kara Hayes "I'm not an idiot, Kaiba." She retorts. Apparently an unwell Anzu is a snappy one, which is a big change from how she normally is. "I know who pulls the strings here, and I didn't mean why you were in the hospital, I meant why you were here with me."
He has a strange air coming from him, and she noticed he avoided eye contact. Something is definitely wrong with the young man. She almost feels bad for snapping. Almost.
"It doesn't matter, anyway.. I'd ask you to leave, but you'd stay just to frustrate me." So she sighs quietly, and watches him for a few moments more, before speaking again. This time in a quieter tone. "..I was given chocolates and oranges; they're over there, if you want some." She hasn't been hungry.
