Have you ever heard of the Boogeyman? The Boogeyman? Who is the Boogeyman? What do you mean you have never heard of the Boogeyman? Silly, silly child.. Of course you have heard of the Boogeyman!
The eerie feel that comes creeping behind you when you think you are all alone. That subconscious feeling of being watched late at night as you curl, shivering under your bed. Ever hear that surprise scratch on the window, or the thumping around in your room? Perhaps even noticing a toy casually misplaced from where you had originally put it?
Oh, little child, you have always heard of the Boogeyman. The creature of nightmares that stalk you as you sleep, the creatures that slowly squeeze the very life and joy from your soul as you begin to stay up later and later wondering how to protect yourself, your life.
Silly, silly child. Never hearing of the Boogeyman?!? It is ludicrous. Ludicrous, I say!

"Hi. Hi, c-can.. can you hear me? If you have this tape, you must have moved into my old house." The voice sounded with static on the old tape recorder that was found, the play button smoothly pressed as the child-like voice projected from it.
"I can't tell you to leave. If you are like me, that wasn't an option for you either. I guess what I can tell you though is this - keep your eyes open." Wind begins howling outside, the lights slowly seeming to dim as night begins to crawl forever closer towards the threshold. Could it possibly be almost time for bed? Was that what was happening?
The static seems to stop for a moment, the voice of the little girl starting to grow even more frantic over the opposite end of the tape recorder. "Listen, listen. My little sister was stolen before - stolen by the Boogeyman. My family didn't believe me, thought she just ran away, but I know the truth. I saw what happened!"
A thump occurred in the corner of the room, a slight creaking of the door to the closet being masked by the falling sounds of the teddy that had dropped. "If you aren't careful, your family will disappear too. When they go, that is when you are at full mercy of the Boogeyman. He'll still you too, like he did my sister!"
Are those tendrils - fingers? - slowly starting to reach out of the closet, beginning to push the door back?
"Listen. It'll start at midnight - I suggest getting all the sleep you can before then, otherwise, you'll never get rest. I hid batteries all along the house; there is a flashlight under the bed. I am certain that you will be able to find them - you will just have to be really fast and really smart. There isn't enough battery life in all of these to help last for the six hours that you will need them if you keep it on the entire time... You'll have to listen and make sure that you don't waste what you have.
"Everything will end again, go back to normal at six am."
The door silently closes again, a figure seeming to stand in the room before sneaking out through the door. Preoccupied by the tape recorder as little Penny was, she probably would not have noticed any of the movements in the slightest.
"... Hey. Hey, you there? I wish you luck. If you somehow manage to beat the Boogeyman... Can you get my sister back for me too?"
