((Yes. I did a thing. Do not judge me. I will not listen.))
[Ellen Yin]
[The Batman]
Detective Ellen Yin sighed as she leaned back in her cheap swivel chair. You would think that the police could afford even slightly better ones. Not Gotham's apparently. She was once again in a place where she didn't know where to turn. Not long ago, her only partner had been turned into some crazy clay...monster. She hated thinking of Ethan that way, but she refused to use Captain Rojas's word for them.
Freaks.
Captain Rojas had this crazy new Zero-Tolerance for freaks that were starting to show up. Gotham used to have the lowest crime-rate in the district. But now, because of all the crazy people showing up, it's become the most dangerous place to live. Every day, she was seeing more 'For Sale' signs as people were catching on and getting the heck outta dodge.
She lifted her head and looked across her desk to the empty one in front of her, where her partner, Ethan who was now Clayface, used to sit. She could still see him, torn between wanting and not wanting to catch the Batman. That was their whole assignment. They were still detectives, but their first priority was, and still is for her, the catch Batman.
She turned her brown eyes to the top right drawer of her desk. She used the tip of her finger to open it, almost hesitantly. Speaking of Batman, she hadn't heard of anything weird happening since everything with Ethan a couple days ago. That's gotta be a record or something. Batwave, the device Batman gave hare for her to call him in case she needed his help, was sitting in the back of her drawer.
She used to be so set on catching the vigilante. That was her whole reason for moving out here and joining Gotham Police Department. But going out there and watching him at work. Watching what lengths he goes to protect people. She found herself thinking like Ethan did. Gotham needed Batman. They needed him to catch the...criminals out there that normal police couldn't. Hell, her shoulder /still/ twinges from thinking about the hulking man, Bane.
She closed the drawer back and stood up, stretching as she made her way to the window and watch the people down below. She found herself scanning the crowd, looking for that darkskinned bald head of her partner. She refused to think of him as anything else no matter what Captain said. She was the one that failed him. She was so set on catching both Joker and Batman that she failed to see that he was still in danger. She grimaced as flashbacks of Clayface ran through her mind and she turned her back on the window.
She sighed as she knew she wasn't going to get anymore work done tonight. It seemed like it was going to be another quiet night. She wasn't sure how to feel about that. She felt better actually doing something. But she felt so conflicted on what she was supposed to do, and what felt right. It would be so easy to do her job and catch the Batman. She could lure him into a trap and have the police waiting. She would be number one Detective in the force. She glanced through the window behind her. And then that would leave all the people out there with no one to help.
She sighed again and rubbed her temples. She needed to get out of this stuffy room and clear her head. Maybe head to the gym and get a good workout. Exhaust herself so she can think more tomorrow. She grabbed her jacket and made her way to the door. She paused her hand on the doorknob and turned back. She grabbed the Batwave and stuck it in her inside jacket pocket, just in case she found something interesting on her way there.

Ōku Nomoji [~Bruce Wayne~]
Was this supposed to be a charity event or what? Nothing was really making sense anymore, not still remaining in the shock of losing his best friend - and the odd partnership that seemed to have unfolded due to it. If only there was some way that he was able to get Ethan back, that would have been wonderful..
Searching day in and day out for any signs of someone that could possibly be Ethan was starting to wear him down; after all, Ethan could be anywhere.. Be anyone. Maybe there wasn't going to be a way to get him back, but Bruce Wayne, the Batman, did not know the sense of the terms 'quit,' 'give up,' 'leave it be.' No. If he was going to do his job as the defender of this city, he was going to do it right.
All he could do now was wait for this entire charity gig to be over so he could get back to searching. He really cared about the people of Gotham City, really cared about their issues and the causes that he was doing these charity runs for, but all the same.. all of it seemed little in comparison when there were people that had their lives and their jobs on the line.
Could he help even a little bit, he would have been more than willing to do so. Maybe that was even why he - well, his alter ego - was viewed as a vigilante. Refusing to be a part of any of the police forces that were around, refusing to do anything that made a difference in whether or not he could do his job and do it properly, he wasn't necessarily the most 'loved' bat on the streets.
In all honesty, he probably caused more structural damages than he would be able to offer back, even with his company that he was the head of, even with his millions and millions of dollars...
So far, the only ones who even knew his identity were himself and Alfred - his butler. Plenty of others had attempted and failed to be able to gather it, be it through luck on Bats' part, or the timely arrivals and quick disposals of dangers thanks to Alfred. Still, there was one man, one, that Bruce was going to be willing to trust with his identity - and that was his dear friend.
The dear friend that was gone. The dear friend that had snapped. The dear friend that was just as much a freak as he was now. It broke his heart, it made him weep.. Wasn't there anything he could do?
---
Hours passed and finally, the event was over. He needed to go out for a drive, get some fresh air. Even a walk to his favorite cafe would do him good, and he even said so to Alfred.
Grabbing the Batwave from where he was sitting, the man disappeared out, brisk pace taking him out to the place he and Ethan always hung out quite quickly.

Oku No Hitobito
Oku No Hitobito Yin lost track of her time in the gym. She went round after round with the punching bags in there. She poured all her frustration and anger out on those poor defenseless bags of sand. No one else was there, people were either at home or on their ways there. The perfect time for her to do anything to funnel these feelings out.
The echo of her last punch rang through the empty room. Her heavy breathing soon overpowered anything else she could hear. She stood up straight and took a deep breath, trying to start calming her breathing and heart beat. She picked up her water bottle and towel, taking a long drink of the lukewarm water. Then she wrapped the towel around her neck and headed towards the showers.
---
She stepped out of the front doors, feeling refreshed and, strangely, energized again. At least her head was clearer. She couldn't put the Batman behinds bars. Gotham needed him. She needed him, as much as it was against what she believed in. She knew she couldn't handle all these enemies by herself, she simply wasn't strong enough alone. And she needed help finding Ethan. She didn't know how this partnership with Batman was going to work out, but she was determined to make it work. If not for herself, then for Ethan. Ethan believed in the Batman and after Joker broke his mind, and turned him into Clayface, then she was going to believe in Batman too.
The cool breeze played with her still wet hair. She took in a deep breath, the ocean smelled a little cleaner today. And began walking down the sidewalk. She wasn't sure where she was going, but after some time she found that her feet were taking her to the place she last saw her partner. The cafe where she and Bruce were at together.
She glanced across the street from the cafe, where she and Bruce last saw Ethan staring at them, nodding like he was happy for the both of them. It had been his idea in the first place to get together at the cafe whenever they could together.
Her eyes traveled back to cafe windows, specifically, the window where she and Bruce had been sitting that particular day. Bruce was interesting. He was kind, giving, and always knew what to say. She hadn't had many runins with Ethan high school friend, but she had this small doubt in the back of her mind that there was more to it then that. That there was more to him then everyone else saw.
And as she came back from her thoughts, she saw Bruce sitting at that table. The one from that day. As if it was her thoughts that had conjured him. She didn't even notice him sitting down. She must really be tired if she failed to see that. She decided to go in a grab a cup of coffee, if nothing else to stay awake long enough to get home.
She went in and ordered her cup before making her way to the dark haired man. "Hello Bruce. Mind if I join you?"

Ōku Nomoji [~Bruce Wayne~]
The male had finally gotten to the cafe. It had taken far too much time between the traffic of people and trying to escape the charity event. Luckily, this little shop was open for quite the amount of time, and the later hour was perfect for being able to relax on his own. Of course, it was always hustling. Teenagers popping in after long days at class, a few businessmen here and there vying for a chance to relax before heading home to hectic homes and worrying wives. At least no one was there with Bruce..
Thoughts channeled their ways into his head as he sat down at the booth, hands clasped quietly over the cup of coffee as he clenched muscles tighter together. There had been much that was left to be desired after everything was said and done, much that still needed to be worked on.
Joker and the other mutants were still running rampant in the city. The Chief was still throwing around his 'zero' tolerance policy. Ethan was still gone..
Brown eyes narrowed as he thought about that high school friend of his. How they had once met shooting basketball. How they had quickly became best friends. How Bruce was the millionaire of Gotham and Ethan had become one of the best detectives in the city.
How Bruce had became Batman. How he had wanted so desperately to tell Ethan who he was...
"Hello, Bruce. Mind if I join you?"
The voice shocked him out of his thoughts. Without realizing it, he had made his eyes start scanning the outside for Ethan, that one man that could have changed everything for Gotham, could have made freaks be less freaky, and best friends have the top of the notch crime fighting scene together.
Then again, there was also Ellen Yin. She was cute, a tough fighter, and someone that really was a good partner for his friend. Only problem was, at least until the entire situation with Clayface had occurred, Detective Yin didn't trust the Batman at all. He was a freak, a vigilante, that deserved to be behind bars..
Though, somehow, someway, a random partnership had been thrust upon the two. The Dark Knight and the Honorable Detective forged a bond... All over a man that inhaled too much funny gas.
Smile crossing his lips, Bruce laughed, gesturing with his hand for her to sit across from him.
"Of course. Please. Take a seat."

Oku No Hitobito
Oku No Hitobito Ellen was too good to miss the wandering eyes. He was in the same boat as she was, always looking for Ethan. She flicked her eyes through the window, hoping to even catch a glimpse of the dark-skinned male. Nothing was there. Nothing was ever there, but it never stopped her from looking anyway. She looked back to Bruce as he straightened up.
She smiled back at his acceptence. She sat down, placing her cup in front of her. She forced herself to watch the ripples in her cup, rather then let her gaze wander to the window. After a moment, when she felt herself in more control, she looked up at him. Was it her imagination, or did he seem a little more wound up then usual.
Perhaps she looked the same way to him. He's probably stayed up late, worrying about his friend. She was so stupid. She wasn't the only one hurting by all this. If anything, Bruce was hurting more. They've been friends for years. She's been his partner for a few months.
She gave him a gentle smile, hoping that he could see she was a little sorry for not coming to see how he was doing before. "How are you holding up?"

Ōku Nomoji
Ōku Nomoji He was lucky in the regard that Ellen currently did not know his secret identity as the Batman; if she did, what would she think about it? Not even Bruce knew, although he had wanted to tell his best friend about the truth for days on end now. He was going to tell him the night that Joker got involved with him; too bad it didn't happen. Once again, the Joker had to ruin everything.
Villains were popping up more out of the wood work than anything else, and the late nights that he was spending trying to find Ethan, spending the extra time attempting to find a cure for him at the Wayne Industries.. Everything was piling up on him in mounds, and it only caused his health and energy to go further down into the darkness.
At least he was someone that thrived on working. The more he worked, the happier he was, the more he was able to keep his mind off of other things that had occurred. It was better this way; at least he would stay out of trouble. Too much trouble, at least.
He returned the smile to her, taking a sip of his own coffee as he noticed the apologetic gesture. Bruce wasn't going to hold it against her; after all, he hadn't come by to visit her either with all of his extra baggage that was going on as well.
"I am doing alright. I am not too concerned about myself though. How have you been?"
