No, don't make me go, don't make me leave.
The fires were still burning in her eyes as she remembered the ruined Beacon, the destroyed Vale that she had been in just a few days before. She remembered seeing Yang being brought over with a wound that would take her time to heal from, could hear the screams from the Tower, had to watch as Blake turned tail and ran like the coward she was. Everything had happened all in a span of a few moments, and that was when the worst horrific thing she could think of occurred.
She saw her father come closer. She saw him glare at her, his harsh, cold eyes seeming to peer into her soul. He hadn't wanted her to come to Vale to begin with; he had wanted her to remain in Atlas, attend the same school her sister and he were alumni from.. and yet, she had disobeyed him completely, made up her own mind instead of being the perfect daughter and pet, and came here.
In all honesty, it was probably for the better she had. She was a spoilt princess when she had first showed up. She was a good for nothing prick with nothing good to say about anyone except the strong and popular. She never would have met her teammates, never would have changed her view on the world, never would have met Jaune and the others if she would have remained stuck in her home for her entire life.
She had grown, she was different, and she was someone that would never turn her back on that amazing gift that she had been given. Seeing her father had brought all of that crumbling down on her head, had seemed to break all of those bonds in just a matter of moments. He was worried, she knew that, she respected that, but at the same time, he hadn't respected her enough to allow her to do what she wanted to do - to be able to stand by her teammates.
He hadn't even given her a chance to say goodbye...
The tears of anger started stinging in her eyes. She had refused to move, refused to speak, keeping primarily to herself instead of spending time with her family. If anyone, the main person she spoke too was Winter; after all, she was the one that gave her the courage to stand up to her father, to move on and do her best to stay at Beacon.
Every day, she packed and unpacked, repacked and unpacked again. She had to be ready in case the opportunity arose for her to be able to leave Atlas, to get to be with her friends again.. and each time, she was reminded that there was no way she would ever be freed from her prison. She truly was a Snow Bird... she was a bird that was now locked in a cage.
"Mirror, tell me something... Tell me who's the loneliest of all," she began singing softly, her voice cracking underneath the pressure of pain and sadness that echoed through her very body. Resonated in the very depths of her soul.
She covered her eyes with her hands, proceeding to cry. There was no other way for it; the thoughts, the memories, the unfairness of the entire situation, was starting to destroy her. She used her Scroll to keep in contact with those that she could. It was through that Scroll that she realized that Pyrrha had been killed, on top of everything else that had occurred, and that Team JNPR and Ruby had joined together to go and defeat Cinder.
Weiss wanted to go. She felt she had to go. Her best friend, the one person who gave her a chance despite the horrible way she had first treated her, was alone with a group. Weiss had to get to her. Had to be her partner as she had already sworn and shown she could be.
A knock on the door shakes her out of her thoughts. Turning her gaze towards it, she cleared her eyes, forcing the most carefree smile on her face that she could. Carefree, hah. More like dead-eyed.
"Come in."
A Faunus, servant of the family, came into the room, holding a tray lined with food. Goodies from the family kitchen, it seemed. After all, not even the rumbling of her stomach would remind her that she hadn't eaten all day. Her appetite had waned significantly since the events. In all honesty, the only reason she bothered trying was in case she was needed to battle properly.
"...Thank you," she whispered to the Faunus kindly, giving a brief nod of her head. She took in the look of the Faunus, the way he looked down, seeming depressed and upset with the way he had been subjugated into rules and forced into whims he didn't want. Walking over, Weiss took the platter from him, placing it on her bedside table, and giving him a tight hug afterwards, much to his surprise.
He looked at her, a questioning glance in his eyes. Of course.. they had been taught not to speak to the family. Faunus were lowly creatures that weren't allowed to become friends with the Schnee family.. and remembering that made her angry.
"I used to look down on you too," she whispered quietly, her voice breaking again. "I... I'm really sorry that all of that pain had occurred to you. I can't do much right now to stop it, but I will figure something out." She leaned backwards, the tears evident in her blue eyes once again.
It was atrocious what the world had become, who she had once been. She was so glad that none of this was her anymore, that she wasn't going to be just another number on the world of life. She was going to make a difference, and she wasn't going to be able to protect anyone if she just sat around.
"Being at Beacon changed my opinion on a lot of things... It's why I've been so..."
"...Depressed?" the Faunus spoke, his voice a soft, lilting sound.
She gave a slight smile to him, giving a nod. "Yes.. Depressed. I need to go back, I need to get to Ruby, but there is no way for me to know where she is. She hasn't been answering her Scroll, she hasn't been able to get in contact with me since security is so tight.. There is nothing I can do here."
After all, Ironwood hadn't taken all of his fleet to Vale, and those that weren't destroyed there had been repaired and brought back to Atlas to do more patrols of the neighboring Kingdom. And that wasn't including her father's state of the art defenses either... He really did want her locked down here.
"I need to go."
"Then go," the Faunus stated, backing away. "You are not stuck here like I am. I am certain you will find your way." Giving her another bow, he snuck off back into the corridors. Of course he would; he couldn't be caught here with her, not like this.
Speaking to the Faunus had made up her mind, though, and that was that she couldn't just sit here with her friends in trouble, Remnant being destroyed, and cruelty like this prevailing.
Packing her bag once more, the clothes she could carry, all the Dust she could gather, the Snow Queen wrote a letter to her father, apologizing for everything. Grabbing her rapier, hanging it at her side, the young Huntress disappeared down the corridors.
"...Hold on, Ruby. I'm coming."

Polyxena Einar
Polyxena Einar The time spent recovering from the use of abilities the silver-eyed girl had never known she had, had been spent restlessly. Her father had checked in on her frequently, and she had tried to spend time with Yang. Tried being the operative word.
Yang spoke to almost no one, in the wake of losing her arm, and half of Ember Cecilia. It broke Ruby’s heart to see her previously vicarious, vibrant sister so depressed.
In the days immediately following the massive attack, Ruby felt undeniably weakened. She had spent herself like never before that day, and then discovering the panic button for her eyes? Well…not only had it physically weakened her, but emotionally, Ruby had been beaten and tossed around.
Pyrrha’s death still played in her dreams, in her waking thoughts without end. There should have been something she could have done to stop it, some effort she hadn’t made. Try as she might, if there was, she couldn’t see it, couldn’t find it in her weeks of analyzing everything that had gone wrong.
They had all been deceived; they had all failed to see what was right in front of them. Because of their failure, they had lost so much. Yang, her arm. Weiss had been taken home. Blake had vanished. Ruby had essentially lost her entire team. And team JNPR…they had lost their ‘P’. They had lost Pyrrha. Ozpin was missing; whether or not he was even alive was something Ruby desperately wanted to know. Ozpin would know what to do, in this circumstance… And Uncle Qrow had left soon after she’d awakened, though at least he’d left clues in his wake as to where he’d departed to.
As the days went by, Ruby could feel herself getting stronger again, could feel her body readjusting. She knew she couldn’t stay here at home. Beacon might be permanently closed; but that didn’t mean she couldn’t make a difference. That she couldn’t continue new training of her own. For that to happen, however, Ruby needed a team again…and her three teammates were still either missing, or not combat ready.
While she got stronger, she began training again. Preparing herself. But always only when her father was out, or taking care of her sister, or trying to get her sister to talk. Only when he wouldn’t notice what she was doing. The rest of her time, she pretended to be recuperating, taking her time in regaining her strength.
Finally, the day came that Ruby knew she was as ready as she could be. She knew it might be hard for JNR to hear from her, but…she figured they would want the same thing as she did. So as soon as Ruby had the chance, she reached out to Jaune, Ren, and Nora. She had not been truly surprised that they had immediately agreed.
While not the team configuration any of them were used to, they were all united under a common cause. Both vengeance and the desire to stop Cinder’s plots.
It was difficult, truly difficult, to readjust to the dynamics of a team that had already been pretty established. But it was a learning process for all of them – after all, with Pyrrha gone…well, nothing was as it had been before.
Despite it all, Ruby missed Weiss. She missed Yang. She missed Blake. The young woman thought that none of the three could possibly track her down, could possibly find and join them now. And if any of them did it would be Yang – but her sister was nowhere near combat ready.
‘Combat ready’…that was what Penny had used to say. The thought of her robotic friend who had been so, so much more than that…well, it was painful. Because to think of Penny was to think of Pyrrha who had killed her…by complete accident, but she had killed her all the same. And then that same day Pyrrha had fallen, as well.
They had lost so many people. So many others had gone missing. Still others had abandoned them. It would have been nice, to have one of her best friends here alongside her, as well.
But Ruby would endure. She had to.
After they had left Patch, they had called in a favor, a pilot Ren had helped out several months before. He had dropped them off in a small village in Mistral, and while they planned where to go next, the four had rented a pair of rooms at the local inn. There was a great deal of unrest in Mistral right now; the faunus owner of the shop was just glad to see customers.
“There’s next to no clues…” Ruby said finally, with a sigh, checking her scroll one more time. Still nothing. “All Uncle Qrow said was that he was headed here, not where. I don’t think we have time to explore all of Mistral…maybe we should head to Haven? Maybe Sun and Neptune are there, maybe they know something—.” But it was probably too much to hope for.
When the others agreed that would be a good next move, she looked back at her scroll. One more time – she’d reach out one more time to the others.
Quick fingers sent a text to Blake – it was returned, of course. Another message to Yang, more vague than the one to Blake. And then…one final one to Weiss.
"We're headed to Haven."
