"I'm. Not. Yelling," Mercury muttered, taking a deep breath after his outburst at his mother. There was very little that should be allowed at this point with him, and this woman appearing out of nowhere into his life once again? This woman that had abandoned him and left him with Marcus Black returning as though nothing had even happened? Please. He had every right to be angry.
He had every right to be irritated, to feel as though he were the one that was left out of the loop. He was the one that had everything feel like a ton of bricks crushed his soul without even a second's hesitation.
Why? Why had he returned to this house? When he had burned it to the ground, when he had killed the drunkard assassin that was always causing him pain and ache, he never thought that he would ever have to come back here. He never figured that he would be required to return to the place of nightmares.. nor that the woman that filled his memories in vibes of loneliness would have been here to visit him.
'You and Emerald have been doing wonderfully,' Cinder had said, her amber eyes beginning to glow in the heat of battle and fire, 'however, you would both do well to remember where you both came from, remember how far you have come, and remember just how much you owe your lives to me.' A gentle touch to his cheek, her voice transforming into a whisk of smoke that seemed to disappear in an instant, and he was immediately on the journey back to this god awful place..
He could remember the past almost as vividly as though he had just lived it. Feel the phantom pains running through his legs, feel the fire burning his lungs, the dry heat licking at his skin, causing his breath to die away..
He could remember the screams his father had yelled, both the ones of total agony and the painful thoughts of the drunken arguments that finally caused Mercury to completely snap. He was never a mean boy, never someone that others would expect to commit murder.. but all of that changed without even a slight hint.
It all started worse after his mother left, the mother that had kept him as sane as possible. Of course, there wasn't any kind of calm in his life, especially not after she had left. His world had been spiraling even worse, the Huntress no longer someone that would take the brunt of Marcus' abuse.
"I am not yelling at you," he whispered, turning his grey eyes away. "All I want to know is why you left? Why you came back after all this time? What is in it for you?"
His fists clenched at his sides as he bit his lip. Of course, hhe wasn't trying to cause any sort of issues, and he honestly wanted no relationship with his mother any more either. He had already cast his lot in life, and that roll had sent him directly to Cinder - the person that seemed to understand him far more than his mother ever would.
"You should leave. I am not at the liberty to speak with you right now." And needless was it to say... she was... quite boring.

Maize stood in silence as her son ranted, keeping her head bowed. Her pained expression was covered by a curtain of jet black hair. She knew he needed to get these words off of his chest and dared not to interrupt him. Besides,if she tried to speak now,her voice was sure to quiver. Hell, she'd probably break down mid sentence and burst into tears. Every mother knew that you should never let your child see you cry. But would he even care? He wasn't speaking to her like he considered her a mother. It was more like an adult to another adult. Or rather..a reversal of roles, him the parent and her the child. This sudden realization was like a major kick in the gut,and coaxed a waiting tear to fall from her bluish gray eyes.
Finally finding the courage to speak a few moments after he had finished,Maize took in a shaky breath and prayed her voice didn't crack. "I wish I could give you an amazing reason as to why I left. I wish I had some decent excuse to give you, because it's what you deserve..but I don't have one. I was just tired. So,so tired of him. His drinking, coming home in blood, hitting me...the way he treated you, most of all. A parent should never touch a child in anything other than a loving embrace. I would've taken every hit for you,Mercury. And I regretted leaving you behind with him the second I did it. I had left behind the only good thing your fa-Marcus had done. Sometimes I even wish I was there the night you destroyed him..because I deserve his fate as well,if not something worse. "
"I hate that man. I truly do. I hate how he hurt you. But that only makes me a hypocrite,I'm afraid...because I feel like I hurt you more than any of hits hits could have....I won't beg for your forgiveness. I don't deserve it,I know. I've never been the mother that you needed. I could never stand up for myself, let alone for you. But I should have. I should have done so many things. But I didn't. I fled, like a coward. A selfish, cowardly mother. "
Finally finding the nerve to look at him,she took in a shaky breath and wiped her eyes with the back of her hands. Maize looked up to him, being an inch shorter than Emerald, and forced a smile.
"I came back with hopes of reconciling with you. I had hoped to make you feel better. But now I realize I only wanted you back for my own selfish reasons, because you really don't need me anymore,do you? You've proved to everyone how self sufficient you are. A strong, handsome, intelligent young man. I guess it was me that needed you all along....I'll leave,if that is what you wish. I'll stay if you ask. But I'll always be here for you,Mercury. I won't leave you again. I'll be here when you need me,be it someone to confide in,or even if you need me to lend you some cash. I'll be here. "
Her mothering instincts told her to wrap her arms around her child in a tight and loving embrace,to never let him go. It was her better judgement that forced her to take a few steps away from him to give him his space.
"I love you...and I'm sorry."
